Diamond Empowerment Fund
The Diamond Empowerment Fund is a non-profit global organization supported by the diamond and jewelry industry whose mission is to offer educational opportunities to young people in areas where diamonds are mined and manufacured. D.E.F. empowers the next generation of leaders in these communities, often some of the most poverty stricken areas on Earth.
Kathy Corey, the VP of Merchandising at Day’s Jewelers, serves on the board of directors of the Diamond Empowerment Fund. “Maintaining a global, diverse and high level board membership will help the Diamond Empowerment Fund continue to grow its mission of supporting initiatives that empower people in diamond communities and shining a light on the good that is done with diamonds” said co-founder of D.E.F., Dr. Benjamin Chavis.
The Diamond Empowerment Fund (D.E.F.) was founded in 2007 by leaders in the Diamond and Jewelry Industry. D.E.F. believes that education is a key component to sustainable development, which in turn is essential to empower individuals, communities, and society toward future economic prosperity, stability and advancement.
Today, over two thousand college age students in Africa, and now in India, have received financial assistance or have been awarded scholarships as a result of the generous support D.E.F has received from the diamond and jewelry industry. Those students, since graduated, have returned home to support their families and create opportunities in their communities. This is what D.E.F refers to as a ‘Diamonds Do Good’ impact.
