  1. Sapphire, the Birthstone of September

It's September, and you know what that means.... Sapphires! This precious gem, the birthstone for September, has as deep and rich a history as it does a brilliant blue shine. Long regarded for its connection to royalty, the sapphire has stood the test of time and tales, swept up in stories of resplendent romance. A mainstay of fairy tales, the sapphire stirred the hearts of millions as the stone used in the engagement ring that Prince William used to propose to the beautiful Kate Middleton. Passed down from his mother, Princess Diana, the ring consists of a 12-carat oval blue sapphire and 14 solitaire diamonds, because... let's face it... nothing pairs with a sapphire like diamonds! Throughout history, the sapphire has been believed to hold great power. From protection from envy and harm to the ability to attract heavenly blessings, the stories that people have told about sapphires have been shared with great awe. Truly, who could blame them ...

  4. Platinum - A Diamond's Best Friend

Platinum - A Diamond's Best Friend. Surveys reveal that more than 80% of women looking to be engaged, prefer Platinum for their engagement ring setting. This highly desirable and precious metal is the best compliment to a diamond because it is Pure, Rare and Eternal. Purest and Rarest of Metals Typically, a piece of platinum jewelry is made up of 95% precious platinum. Compared to 14K gold which is 58.5% gold, or 18K gold which is 75% gold, platinum's purity makes it naturally hypoallergenic especially for those with sensitive skin. Platinum is 30 times more rare than gold, which is why the world's finest diamonds and gemstones were only set in platinum.   Naturally White and Never Fades Platinum's everlasting white metal never reflects color into the diamond it showcases. Unlike white ...

  5. How you could be unintentionally killing your jewelry...

Like a new car, new jewelry eventually requires maintenance. This isn't a suggestion, it's a fact. When you love your jewelry, you wear it (as you should). When you wear it, you damage it. This fact is not so much about quality craftsmanship as it is about wear and tear. When you drive thousands of miles on your car, it is not the car's fault the tires need to be replaced. The same concept can (and should) be applied to jewelry. Under elements of normal wear and tear your metals should last you the following number of years without requiring prong or shank maintenance. Yellow Gold - 5 Years White Gold - 8 Years Platinum - 20 Years This is under normal wear and tear. Below, I have created a list of activities that unintentionally kills jewelry. If you want to maximize the life of your jewelry and delay repair work as long as possible, please be (unofficially) advised to re ...

  6. Opal Myth Debunked!

"It's bad luck to wear opal if it's not your birthstone." This is something that we hear from our guests on a regular basis. Where does this superstition come from? Frank, from Parle Jewelry Designs/Idaho Opal and Gem Corporation let us in on history of this well-known belief: In 1829, Sir Walter Scott published a novel titled, Anne of Geierstein (or The Maiden of the Mist). This according to Frank, was the Harry Potter of its time! In this novel. The Baroness of Arnheim wears a talisman made of Opal bestowed with magical powers. When holy water is splashed on the opal, it loses its colors and the Baroness becomes a pile of ash. It is because of this fictional scene that people started to associate opals with bad omens. Long before Sir Walter Scott's fantastical tale, the ancient Greeks and Romans thought the opal was a symbol of good luck and fortune. Due to its many colors, the opal was a symbol of hope like the rainbow. It was often given as a gift to bring protec ...
