On November 1, 2021, Day’s Jewelers became a 100% employee owned company when Kathy and Jeff Corey sold all shares to Day’s Jewelers Employee Stock Ownership Plan and Trust.  A Board of Trustees was created to oversee the stock and represent company employees.  Trustees are Kristie Jandreau (Day’s HR Manager), David Gilman (Day’s VP of Finance), Richard Mendelson (external ESOP experienced professional), Kathy Corey and Jeff Corey.  Updated Day’s ESOP information will be posted to this portal.

Richard Mendelson, Day’s Jewelers ESOP Trustee

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Mendelson to Day’s Jewelers ESOP Trustee Committee joining Kristie Jandreau, David Gilman, Kathy Corey and Jeff Corey. Trustees are responsible for oversight of Day’s ESOP to ensure it acts in the best interest of employee shares.

Mr. Mendelson has performed the financial analysis on and assisted in the structuring of over 60 ESOP transactions. He is employed by Bellview Associates, the company who structured Day’s ESOP, and was responsible for the financial modeling of our new venture.

Rich is a 2015 graduate of George Washington University where he co-founded the George Washington Student Investment Club and managed their equity portfolio. Prior to joining Bellview Associates, Richard worked as an investment associate at Bridgewater Associates in the research department on the equities team.

We welcome Mr. Mendelson and his extensive knowledge and experience with ESOPs to the Day’s team.

A letter from Jeff & Kathy Corey

We are pleased to announce that today we sold all of our shares of Day’s Jewelers to Day’s Jewelers Employee Stock Ownership Plan and Trust.  Effective November 1, 2021, Day’s will be a 100% employee-owned company. The company will pay for the shares over a 10-year period. Future financial gains of the company will be allocated to eligible employee’s retirement accounts. Employees must be working at Day’s for three years to become vested.

The only thing that will change at Day’s is ownership.  For the short term, we will remain in our positions. Long term, we intend to continue serving on Day’s Board of Directors and as Trustees. We know you’ll have many questions. Enclosed is a book which will help to explain what an ESOP is in general as well as a sheet that addresses some questions you may have.  More information will follow.  The marketing team is in the process of creating a private web site which will be continually updated with details.

This is a particularly proud moment for us.  Thirty-two years ago, we purchased the last remaining Day’s store, bound and determined to build a company that will stand the test of time. Today, Day’s is New England’s largest independent retail jeweler, and our company is recognized nationally among the best in the industry.

Credit for the success of Day’s Jewelers belongs to the employees of our company, both past and present. It is those people who consider their employment at Day’s as more than just a job who have made our company what it is today.  It is a great honor for us to entrust our dream to you and your team of true professionals. No doubt, the new owners of Day’s will continue on our mission to build a company that will stand the test of time for generations to come.

Kathy & Jeff Corey
