  • Everyday Elegance in Swarovski

I admire our merchandise team for their strict criteria; pieces are picked with environmental and ethical concerns in mind, whether or not they can last a lifetime (in most cases many lifetimes) and their quality.

Swarovski is a designer that matches this criteria with some of our more obtainable pieces in both everyday fashion and elegant statements. We can get behind that.

Eternity rings are super fly and at this price, please.

  • Betty's Bling Blog 2

Quite a few years ago, I was working as a travel agent and had the privilege of visiting Swarovski’s Crystal Theme museum in Tyrol, Austria and was amazed at all the beauty. The brilliance was blinding as I gazed at all the crystal figurines. They have since then, manufactured high quality lead glass crystal jewelry of which Day's is proud to display on their website and in their stores ready to lure you with a wide selection of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings.

Recently, this exquisite Swarovski Slake Pulse necklace appeared before me, waiting for a marketing description. I was amazed at all the details and Swarovski’s creativity and innovation used to create this beautiful necklace. I was soon enchanted by the design and especially the sparkling crystals against a black background. A necklace fit for any queen.

Synthetic diamonds, also referred to as lab created diamonds, engineered diamonds or man-made diamonds are artificially produced in a laboratory. Their chemical properties, pure carbon crystal structure, brilliance and hardness are identical to a natural diamond. Unlike natural diamonds, formed in the Earth’s crust billions of years ago, synthetic diamonds are not considered rare because they can be produced in limitless quantities in a matter of weeks. Since their quantities are not finite as with natural diamonds, it is uncertain if their value will remain over time.

Synthetic diamonds were first created by General Electric in 1953. Up until recent years, man-made diamonds could not be created in a quality suitable for jewelry. They were primarily used as abrasives or in industrial tools such as saws and drill bits because of a diamond’s superior hardness. During the past few years, refinements in the diamond manufacturing process have produced increasingly finer quality stones, suitable for use in jewelry.

Synthetic diamonds are now being produced in larger quantities are more readily available in different colors and shapes. Prices of synthetic diamonds range from 20-30 percent below natural diamonds.

Those who sell these diamonds must clearly disclose to the consumer that they are not natural diamonds by labeling them as synthetic diamonds, laboratory grown diamonds, man-made diamonds or created diamonds.

To the human eye, laboratory grown diamonds look identical to a natural diamond. Only specialized instruments are able to identify man-made diamonds. The question as to whether to purchase a synthetic diamond versus a natural diamond is a personal choice. To some, it might be important to own a diamond that was formed naturally, billions of years ago and has stood the test of time. Others may wish to enjoy the beauty and brilliance of a man-made diamond at a reduced cost.

  • Swarovski Annual Christmas Ornaments

Last year, around this time, I was introduced to the Swarovski Annual Christmas Ornaments. I fell in love with them immediately and was excited to start a collection of my own. Each Swarovski Annual Ornament is a limited edition and at the end of the commemorative year, that year’s edition is retired, never to be replicated. At Day’s Jewelers, we had a rare collection of a few retired Swarovski Annual Ornaments from years past as well as the 2012 design. Before I could begin my collection, several of the years we had sold out as the collector’s caught wind of our rare assortment.

gcrsw1136-resized-600.jpgIn 2013 I purchased my first home! Becoming a homeowner has been such a milestone in my life and I can’t think of a better way to commemorate my first holiday season in my new home than with the 2013 Swarovski Annual Ornament. Collecting one of these crystal beauties will be a tradition for me going forward like it is for so many who have been collecting them for years.

Many of my friends have reminded me that the magic of Christmas is resurrected when we have children and begin families of our own. Though I haven’t started my family yet, I feel like I am laying the ground work for the customs my children will grow up with. These Swarovski ornaments bring back the nostalgia of Christmas that I felt when I was young girl and I’m looking forward to sharing the story of these ornaments and passing them down my children someday.  These beautiful ornaments are more than a collector’s item, they are the start of memories that will become Christmas traditions.
