  1. How to Keep Your Sterling Silver Jewelry Clean

Let’s face it- sterling silver, although beautiful and the preferred jewelry metal for some people, doesn’t always look nice. When tarnish sets in, sterling silver jewelry can turn ugly real fast, and if you don’t wear your sterling jewelry often, there’s unfortunately no way to avoid tarnish. But have no fear! If you’ve just pulled a piece of sterling jewelry out of your jewelry box, but it’s turned gray or black with tarnish, Day’s is here to help you get rid of that tarnish and get back to being your fabulous self, silver accessories included.  Baking Soda is Your FriendBaking soda is abrasive, but gentle enough to clean sterling without damaging the metal, perfect for buffing stubborn tarnish stains away. You can use baking soda toothpaste and an old toothbrush to carefully scrub away the tarnish, or you can get a little more complicated with a dip.  ...

  2. Clean Water for Africa

In 2005, my friend Alethe Clemetson took a leave of absence from her job as a gemologist at Tiffany and Company. She volunteered with Cross-Cultural Solutions in Tanzania working with children at the Kilimahewa Kindergarten School teaching basic math and English. Camping with the tribes gave Clemetson a taste of what it's like to actually live in the dire conditions that the local people face everyday, including a lack of clean water. Part of the experience was to live as a Maasai woman walking about 5 miles to fetch water each day. The water wasn't clean and the wells were surrounded by slippery mud making retrieving the water incredibly dangerous. Alethe wasmoved and inspired when she returned. Shortly after that, she quit her job at Tiffany and founded Jewelers That Care ...

  5. Silver is the New Gold

Diamonds set in sterling silver? It was about 10 years ago when a jewelry manufacturing company from the United Kingdom came to this country with a revolutionary new concept that rocked the jewelry industry. Some of us jewelry purists were appalled that a company named Hot Diamonds had the audacity to set diamonds into sterling silver. Up till that point, diamonds, the most precious and rare of gemstones, would never be set in anything other than gold or platinum. Why is silver so popular? Sterling silver is rapidly becoming the leading metal in the fabrication of Fine Jewelry. Even Scott Kay, one of the most renowned designers of engagement rings, who once vowed he would never use silver, has succumbed to the craze. Why has silver become so popular? Very simple....affordability! The price of silver today is about $40 an ounce while ...
