    For any married folks, you’ve probably heard of anniversary gifts. The tradition of giving gifts at certain years of marriage originated in Central Europe in the Middle Ages, and it’s continued since then with a little tweaking. The silver and gold wreaths of the Germanic people in the Middle Ages morphed into a more extensive list of designated gifts in Victorian England, mostly focused on the addition of diamonds. In 1922, Emily Post cemented the idea of anniversary gifts with her publication of the “Blue Book of Social Usage.” Emily Post’s list of gifts for every wedding anniversary through the 15th, and including the 20th, 25th, 50th, and 75th became a standard that was once again updated in 1937 by the American National Retail Jeweler Association, including an extensive list of gifts for every anniversary through the 20th, and every 5th year after that up to the 75th. ...

    I have a special soft spot for June’s birthstone, not only because pearls are my birthstone, but because they’re some of the coolest gemstones in the industry! Pearls are the only gemstones to be formed by a living creature in a process that can take years in the wild. Without human interference, pearls develop when a tiny irritant- a grain of sand, a shard of pebble- enters the inside of an oyster. That irritant stimulates the pearl to protect its soft flesh by covering the grain of sand with a layer of nacre, a milky-white fluid that hardens over time. The oyster continuously covers that grain of sand with nacre, growing a precious pearl over months and years. Your jewelry purchased from Day's Jewelers is warranted for a lifetime against defects in materials and craftsmanship. To be eligible for this warranty, your piece of jewelry must be inspected at any Day's store at least once every six months. If you should live in an area where there is no Day's store located, we would be happy to recommend a reputable jeweler to perform the required semi-annual inspections. Day's also offers a low cost extended care plan that covers normal wear and tear of items not deemed as defective.
