Bed sheets are sold by thread count. The more threads, the softer the sheet- to us! Our jewelry, on the other hand finds any sheet a hazardous encounter. Imagine yourself having to cross through a grouping of thorny rose bushes. Most of us would rather not cross at all. Bed sheets, having all of the woven threads, can act like sandpaper on the tips and prongs on rings pendants, and bracelets. This leads to premature wear, requiring costly maintenance more often.

You’re engaged, congratulations! In the midst of all of your planning and excitement, though, you may be letting one crucial step fall to the wayside: insuring your ring. Traditionally, the person who bought the ring is responsible for getting it insured, but in most cases, it comes down to just doing what’s best for you and your partner, so don’t dwell on this part too much.

The second type of insurance typically available to your fine jewelry is attaching the ring to your homeowners or renters insurance. There are a few different ways to do this, if you choose to go this route.

Taking the CDC’s handwashing recommendations into account? Your body will thank you for preventative action, but your jewelry may not.
Water and soap won’t cause harm to most jewelry, but there are certain gemstones that should never be exposed to water. Hand sanitizer often contains alcohol, which can dry out or damage other gemstones. The lotion you put on your hands after all this excessive washing and sanitizing can turn your sparkling jewels into dull stones.
