A few years ago my uncle gave me a baggie which contained a pretty rough looking piece of twisted metal. Upon opening it I realized that it was a Navajo sterling silver cuff style watch with turquoise and coral. This poor thing was in horrible shape, the watch was busted, the cuff practically cracked all the way through and one of the large turquoise stones was missing. Sitting there holding this, I thought to myself "this sure looks familiar". My uncle explained to me that this was my grandfather's watch. "That's why I remember it" I said. You see my grandfather passed away when I was just a boy and he was only 52 years old. He was the Chief of the Penobscot Indian tribe here in Maine, and I remember seeing this watch on him when I would visit him in the tribal offices after kindergarten class. ...
