ropd0622_1Let's celebrate winter in style, with a few cocktails, rings that is.

I can honestly say that cocktail rings are my favorite style of ring. They are large, dramatic rings often worn at "cocktail parties." For those that know me, I am pretty dramatic and a social butterfly - thus the love of these rings.

While today cocktail rings are worn because they have a large fashion appeal and demeanor about them, they used to be worn for other reasons.

History of the Cocktail Ring:

dclst1009_2During the Prohibition in the U.S. women often wore these rings at illegal cocktail parties, where they displayed the fact that the wearer was drinking illegally, and was doing it with flair. However, in 2013, we do not want any of our ladies drinking illegally, but they can certainly enjoy a beautiful cocktail ring. Though cocktail rings first came into fashion in the 1930s, they grew in popularity throughout the 1940s and 1950s. Today, people wear these huge rings with diamonds and other large gemstones for formal occasions, and events.

The Bigger the Better:

dclst0995_1That's right. Cocktail rings are supposed to catch the eye of those around you, and should come across as excessive and flamboyant. Cocktail rings can be worn on any finger, however the right hand ring finger or index finger is often the most common.

If you are looking for a cocktail ring, you might consider shopping the estate collections. You may even be able to find one with a story from an original cocktail party! Or check out designers like Janice Girardi, Metalsmiths and Dabakarov for a more modern look.

About the Blogger:

Hey, it's Melissa! The social media, fashionista! There are times you will see me dressed up to hit the town in my stilettos and favorite dress. Other days (mostly weekends), I'm all about a pair of jeans, a t-shirt or hoodie and a pair boots or flip flops.

Why do you love Day's Social Media Team? This is the perfect place for me! I was always getting in trouble in school for talking too much and being the social butterfly (ask my mom). I can't help it. I love sharing fashion trends and new lines that come in. I also like helping people find what they are looking for.
