November 14, 2017Like a new car, new jewelry eventually requires maintenance. This isn't a suggestion, it's a fact. When you love your jewelry, you wear it (as you should). When you wear it, you damage it. This fact is not so much about quality craftsmanship as it is about wear and tear. When you drive thousands of miles on your car, it is not the car's fault the tires need to be replaced. The same concept can (and should) be applied to jewelry. Under elements of normal wear and tear your metals should last you the following number of years without requiring prong or shank maintenance. Yellow Gold - 5 Years White Gold - 8 Years Platinum - 20 Years This is under normal wear and tear. Below, I have created a list of activities that unintentionally kills jewelry. If you want to maximize the life of your jewelry and delay repair work as long as possible, please be (unofficially) advised to remove ...Read more »This entry was posted in: maine jewelers , jewelers repair , jewelry services , do's and dont's , jewelry education , cleaning tips for jewelry , learn about , jewelry , gold jewelry , goldsmiths , jewelry repair , jewelry tips , how to wear , heirloom jewelry , jewelers that care , Maine jeweler , care for jewelry , jewelry store , all fashion jewelry tips , manchester new hampshire jeweler , how to , goldsmith , jewelry metals , learn about metals , jewelers online , jewelers maine , jewelers new hampshire

October 06, 2017"It's bad luck to wear opal if it's not your birthstone." This is something that we hear from our guests on a regular basis. Where does this superstition come from? Frank, from Parle Jewelry Designs/Idaho Opal and Gem Corporation let us in on history of this well-known belief: In 1829, Sir Walter Scott published a novel titled, Anne of Geierstein (or The Maiden of the Mist). This according to Frank, was the Harry Potter of its time! In this novel. The Baroness of Arnheim wears a talisman made of Opal bestowed with magical powers. When holy water is splashed on the opal, it loses its colors and the Baroness becomes a pile of ash. It is because of this fictional scene that people started to associate opals with bad omens. Long before Sir Walter Scott's fantastical tale, the ancient Greeks and Romans thought the opal was a symbol of good luck and fortune. Due to its many colors, the opal was a symbol of hope like the rainbow. It was often given as a gift to bring protection ...Read more »This entry was posted in: gemstones , birthstones , gemstone information , gemstone facts , Day's Jewelers , birthstone , jewelry , gemstone jewelry , jewelry tips , all fashion jewelry tips , bridal jewelry , hand crafted , garnets , online jeweler , birthstone jewelry , gemstone rings , bridal accessories , necklace , gemstone , garnet , opal , award

March 28, 2017I admire our merchandise team for their strict criteria; pieces are picked with environmental and ethical concerns in mind, whether or not they can last a lifetime (in most cases many lifetimes) and their quality. Swarovski is a designer that matches this criteria with some of our more obtainable pieces in both everyday fashion and elegant statements. We can get behind that. Eternity rings are super fly and at this price, please. Swarovski Vittore Crystal Eternity Ring[/caption] V classy. October 03, 2016I'm convinced that I have the most "fun" job in the whole Day's Jewelers' system. I work "behind the scenes" from my home as a marketing description writer where I get to write about all the products that appear on the website. Every item has its own story and no two items are identical so I get to use my imagination to draw your attention by embellishing the pieces of jewelry with words that best describe each unique piece. I also get to experience the thrill of seeing each piece of jewelry right before it appears on the website for your enjoyment. Featured this week, is one of my favorite designers, LeVian. The Le Vian Chocolatier collection is an exclusive collection for Day's Jewelers that uses only the finest and well matched Chocolate diamonds and colored gemstones. Their creations are all captured on strawberry, honey and vanilla 14kt gold. Delectable, delicious and decadent, LeVian designs are loved and collected by a diverse clientele. My choice this week, is an ...Read more »This entry was posted in: buying a diamond , all fashion jewelry tips , diamond jewelry , colored diamonds , chocolate diamonds

September 16, 2013Summer is over. I know, it's ok to be sad, but just for a little bit. Now it's time for sweaters, boots, and big jewelry! I've been checking out a lot of the Fall fashion jewelry trends for 2013 and the theme is still going strong with the pantone emerald. However, this fall we get to play with colors like acai, koi, and samba to name a few. Aside from adding some color to your jewelry wardrobe, be ready to add big, bold statement pieces. Can I tell you how happy this makes me? I am, afterall, the queen of big, bold jewelry. These are your colors, work 'em! My selected favorites would be koi, vivacious, and acai. These three work great with any outfit and they play nicely with emerald: Pantone colors for Fall Jewelry 2013 These are your5 Fall Fashion Jewelry ...Read more »
