  1. Choosing the Right Gift for Your Relationship

Receiving gifts is something that most people love, I know I do. For me the gifts that have the most meaning are the ones that are given with great sentiment. The ones that were thought about and perfectly planned and mean the world only to the person receiving it. Very commonly jewelry becomes a staple gift to give women. At this point in my current relationship, jewelry purchases are not a gift I am ready to receive. I am a lover of jewelry; I have been growing my collection ...

  2. Top 3 Nontraditional Desserts by Guest Blogger Amber Small

Here at Day's Jewelers, we know that staying up to date on all things wedding related is important, so when we notice new trends, we like to talk about it! One thing we've noticed recentlythe number of people who are straying from tradition when it comes to certain aspects of their wedding. We asked our guest blogger Amber Small her thoughts on traditional vs. nontraditional when it comes to wedding reception desserts: I love that people are becoming more creative about showcasing their personality and design when it comes to the desserts that they choose for their wedding reception. Ultimately the choice is up to you; if you are having a traditional wedding, a simple tiered cake will be beautiful. If your wedding has a theme that is nontraditional, it's fun to see how you can ...

  3. Style File: JCK Vegas, Kathy Corey

Kathy Corey, VP Merchandising / Owner, Day's Jewelers: Clearly, Day's Jewelers was well represented at JCK Las Vegas, the largest fine jewelry exhibition trade show in the US, when 12 of us explored the 4000 jewelry exhibits and attended dozens of educational programs at the Mandalay Bay Hotel Convention Center. As VP of Merchandising, what gets my heart palpitating is the unveiling of new jewelry design concepts and experiencing the unique and beautiful jewelry creations. "So what's new and exciting?" you ask. America is finally moving beyond the recession, consumer confidence is improving, so there ...

  5. Choosing the Perfect Wedding Bands With Real Maine Weddings

Once a year, Real Maine Weddings holds a contest to give away one dream wedding at a fantastic Maine venue. Almost every aspect of this Real Maine Wedding is voted on by the public, from the winning couple, to the dress, to the invitations! This year's lucky winners are Tara and Trevor from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Day's Jewelers had the opportunity to have Tara and Trevor in our Auburn store this week to pick out their wedding bands. The wedding bands are another item on the list of things that the public will be voting to make the final decision on. Tara and Trevor came in to pick out their top three band choices that ...

  6. Style File: JCK Vegas, Rebecca Bonney

Rebecca Bonney, Assistant Store Manager Day's Jewelers, Auburn The jewelry show in Vegas was amazing! Walking onto the show floor was jaw dropping and breathtaking all at the same time. There were so many things to see and so many new jewelry trends coming out that I will narrow it down to the things that really "wowed" me. Ritani is working on a program that allows the customer to custom design a ring and then see what it will look like before they purchase it. It allows the customer to have a better idea of what their vision will actually look like. When you select a ring, the image is uploaded onto the iPads we have in store. The customer can then change the metal color, finger ...

  7. Shopping for Diamond Engagement Rings

Today many of us jump to the internet as our first option for any purchase. Myself, I use it as a tool to gage what is acceptable to pay for something that can be purchased anywhere. If there is one thing that defies this rule it is shopping for diamond engagement rings;no two diamonds are the same. That is not to say that you should not do your research to get a general education and an idea of what to expect. Next, you need to trust your jeweler. A mall jeweler generally is going to have cookie-cutter pieces that are set by some factory in china based on strict cost cutting procedures, and generally has minimal education on the finer points of jewelry. Choosing a jeweler you trust can be a time consuming ...

  8. 5 Tips for Flowers, Photography and Cake by Amanda Aceto

I cannot believe that Kevin and I have one month until our wedding day. This is officially the busiest I have ever been! Between ending the school year, changing jobs, and finalizing all the wedding details suffice it to say I am a little tired. However, I will say that Kevin and I have been very organized through this whole process. We have a great handle on the big ticket items such as our flowers, cake, and photography. Now is the time we are ironing out the specifics. Our florist, Fiddlehead Florist in Cape Elizabeth, holds special meaning to me. The location of Fiddlehead was once the location of a special childhood place, The Blueberry Patch that my grandmother and I used to shop at. We chose Fiddlehead because Lauren, owner and floral ...

  9. Style File: Diamond Earrings and Birkenstocks

Here in New England we're no stranger to the Birkenstock sandal. My grandmother has been rocking this trend for as long as I can remember; and this year I am happy to say Grandma's got style! It's true, the Birkenstock inspired sandal is making a major comeback for Summer 2014. I first noticed this when I went to Venice beach for a day. I saw a woman wearing a pair ...

  10. New Head vs. Retips

Most jewelers suggest that you bring your jewelry in every 6 months to be checked: cleaned, tightened up - like a spa treatment for your jewelry. However, sometimes when a ring is brought in for inspection it may be recommended that the item needs work done to it to help preserve the item. For example, on a ring we doretips. What is a retip?:building up and "repairing" the pegs of metal holding the diamond (the prongs). The prongsstart to show wear and retippingthem will bring the ring back to safe and stable condition. Retipping is something that will generally last for six months to a year before more wear begins to occur again. An alternative to retipping is putting on anew head. What is a new head?: A ...
