  1. Get to Know Designer: Tom Kruskal

Get to Know Designer: Tom Kruskal Tom Kruskal is a New England jeweler, with a background in math, design, and music; this background helps him when designing. His design process incorporatesa lifelong exploration of linear forms in space, and attention to the interplay of aesthetics and the fabrication process. His motto: if it's too complicated to make, it's probably not a good design! Tom has built his career around elevating hand-forged jewelry from a craft to an art. He balances artistic honesty with the integrity of a successful small New England business. Many of his inspirations come from organic shapes in the New England countryside, the ocean, and from music. Tom's goals are to create beautiful pieces of jewelry that are classic yet contemporary. They must be appropriate for women of all ages, can be worn day or night, and must be affordable. How does ...

  2. Clean Water for Africa

In 2005, my friend Alethe Clemetson took a leave of absence from her job as a gemologist at Tiffany and Company. She volunteered with Cross-Cultural Solutions in Tanzania working with children at the Kilimahewa Kindergarten School teaching basic math and English. Camping with the tribes gave Clemetson a taste of what it's like to actually live in the dire conditions that the local people face everyday, including a lack of clean water. Part of the experience was to live as a Maasai woman walking about 5 miles to fetch water each day. The water wasn't clean and the wells were surrounded by slippery mud making retrieving the water incredibly dangerous. Alethe wasmoved and inspired when she returned. Shortly after that, she quit her job at Tiffany and founded Jewelers That Care ...

  5. Jewelry Trends 2013: Neon Jewelry

"The sky in Cheyenne, Wyoming is just about as blue as it gets and if you ain't seen a Santa Fe sunset, you ain't seen red. Texas sunflower yellow can take your breath away. I've seen it all from the orange of the fall to the green of the summer, but my favorite color is neon" -Neon, Chris Young You may not know country music, but we can all relate to colors. The fashion industry is loading up with pops of neon color, from purses and shoes to jewelry. This spring, add some neon to your creamy neutrals and soft pastels to make a big statement. 6. Mother's Day Gift Guide

Psst. Guess what? Mother's Day is May 12th. Did you remember this year? As much as mom loves eating at the local restaurant, she doesn't need another gift card there this year. Why not give her something that will last a lifetime? Stuck on how to find the right gift? Well I'm here to help. I'm going to give you a few pointers on how to pick the perfect gift for Mom (or anyone!). Getting Started: When purchasing for jewelry, keep in mind who you are purchasing for. Family members generally have more sentimental valued gifts, like a mother's ring, or a new bead to add to her charm bracelet. Friends have less romantic gifts but no less meaningful. A friend may be just as challenging to buy for as someone in your family. However, when purchasing for that special someone, you need to make sure the gift is absolutely perfect. Always have a budget in mind when you begin shopping. If you have a price range in mind, the sales associate can better ...

  7. Diamonds are more than just Bling

A friend of mine just posted a picture of her new engagement ring on Facebook. The ring, like her, was unique with a gorgeous bright red ruby set in classic yellow gold. After I congratulated her and gushed over how beautiful the ring was I had to ask, "why no diamond?" She replied, "Bling has never really been my thing." I had to agree. Of all my friends she was never one to wear something flashy but she was the first to volunteer to pick up trash around campus, organize the annual MS walk, and donate the few extra dollars she had as a college student to causes she believed in. I realized ...

Blue, yellow, and pink - Oh My! Topaz is one of the many gemstones that can be found in many colors. What color best fits your style?
