Learn About WatchesWatches can be a simple way to tell the time or a complex system of tools useful for any adventure. Your watch says a lot about you and often several are needed to be used in different situations (deep sea diving requires something different than a wedding).
Movements
The movement of the watch is simply what keeps it ticking. There are several ways that watches are powered; battery, solar/ eco-drive (sun powered), mechanical energy (spring powered), and kinetic (motion powered). Each of these movements sometimes needs recharging, but if worn regularly (or placed in the sun on a watch rotator) will last for a very long time.
Water Resistance
Most watches today are “water resistant” (safe for hand washing) but each watch has its own capacity to protect its internal workings against moisture. Some of the basic features that protect your watch’s inner workings are the gasket lining (seal between the case and back), screw-back crowns (part you turn to set the time), and heavy gauge materials (that don’t concave under pressure). A watch’s ability to resist moisture will always be marked on its back. The most common levels of water resistance are: 30 meters (about 100 feet this is safe only for hand washing and normal daily use), 50 meters (about 165 feet or suitable for shallow swimming), 100 meters (about 330 feet or safe for snorkeling or deeper swimming), 200 meters (about 660 feet or safe for recreational scuba diving), and a few companies do make professional diving watches which are marked 1,000 meters (over half a mile or safe for professional dives). No watch is permanently water proof and if not properly cared for, even the best diver’s watch can sustain water damage
Useful Features
Other useful features that a watch may come with are shock resistance, perpetual calendars (which keep track of the days in each month), mineral or sapphire crystals (a much tougher ‘glass’ to cover the face of the watch), nurses/sweep/ “second” hand, alarms, compasses, and chronographs (stopwatch). Visibly, some watches also have hands and points on the dial that glow or light up to help your read the time at night.
Look
Finally watches come in every look from one whose entire inner working is exposed (skeleton/ gallery watches) to sporty red straps, or solid gold. Find the look that is right for you and fits where you will be wearing it to.

Watch CareWatches should be cared for in the same general manner as any piece of fine jewelry. Some watches require more care and attention than others. The most important thing you can do to ensure longevity of your watch is to carefully read the instruction manual.
Exposure to water is the cause for most damage to watches. Watches not marked "water resistant" on the back should never be exposed to water in any way. If a watch is marked "water resistant" on the back, this means it can safely be exposed to incidental water such as washing hands and rain water. If a watch is water resistant to 50 meters or more, it is safe for light swimming. Only watches tested to 100 meters or more may be worn when diving or shallow skin diving.
Make certain that the "crown" of your watch is always pushed in completely otherwise the movement may be exposed to water and dust.
Mineral or glass crystals are particularly resistant to scratching, but they may scratch when coming in contact with abrasives or metals. Scratches cannot be polished out.
Plastic crystals will scratch easier, but scratches may be buffed out by a professional jeweler. If your watch was purchased from us, Day's will buff your watch crystal at no charge any time.
Gold plated watches are typically a thin layer of gold over a base metal. You must expect that the gold layer will wear through as the watch is exposed rubbing against other substances.
When the case back of a watch is removed to replace a battery or other reason, very special care must be exercised to ensure dust or dirt does not enter the movement and the gasket must be carefully reset. Watch batteries should only be replaced by a professional jeweler. With any watch purchased from us, Day's will replace the battery at no charge for the life of the watch.
With any watch purchased from Day's, we will resize the bracelet at no charge for the life of the watch. Stop by Day's or your local jeweler to find your size.

Day's Watch WarrantyDay's Watch Warranty
Day's Jewelers will repair or replace, within three years of purchase (at Day's Jewelers option) the movement, bracelet, case, or buckle of your watch free of charge if such parts prove to be defective in material or workmanship under normal use.
Day's Jewelers warranty does not include leather straps, crystals, crowns or stems and does not cover damage arising from scratches, accidents or misuse, or from any alteration, service or repair performed.
Day's also provides a lifetime of free battery replacement at any Day's Jewelers location providing that the watch is not a diver's watch. In the instance of a diver's watch Day's will send the watch to the maker to be properly resealed. Please leave 4 to 6 weeks for battery replacement and resealing of diver's watches.

All shipping is done via UPS. Below is a chart of what each shipping option means and how much it will cost:

Return Policy:
It is important to us that you, or the person who receives it, is 100% satisfied with your purchase. Day's will offer a full refund within 14 days from the date you receive it or the date you give it as a gift, whichever is later. Day's can not offer a full refund for items that were custom designed, show wear, have been altered, or have been engraved.
For a refund, you can bring the item back to any Day's Jeweler's Store, or ship it properly insured to DJF, 88 Main Street , Waterville , ME 04901 .
Taxes:
Due to stringent state laws Day's Jewelers must charge a 5% sales tax to all shipments going to Maine residential or commercial addresses |
