Untitled Document Learn About: Amethyst  The most popular variety of quartz minerals, Amethyst can come from the ground as a light purple shade or as a dark color that is nearly brown. Often Amethyst is heated to be made into a permanent shade of royal purple, gold or green that is most commonly adored by its lovers.
Because purple has been long established as a color of royalty, Amethyst has been in high demand throughout history. The purple hues found in this gemstone were favored by both British and Egyptian royalty. There is a legend stating that Amethyst helps its wearer prevent intoxication while calming and focusing the human spirit. Even the great Leondardo da Vinci believed that Amethyst could increase intelligence and destroy evil thoughts (AGTA). Amethyst is created in the cavities of mineral veins and granite rocks and is even mined here in the state of Maine . Most commonly, Amethyst is found in Brazil and tends to be light-colored while Amethyst from Madagascar is generally redder with violet hues. Amethyst is the birthstone for February and ranks 7 out of 10 on the Mohs scale (used to determine gem hardness). A tough gemstone, Amethyst can safely be worn often. |

Amethyst Care and Ring SizingAmethyst Care:
Amethyst is the mineral quartz with a hardness of 7 on the Moh's scale. It's durable and great for everyday wear.
Avoid exposure to heat or prolonged exposure to sunlight, which may bleach the color.
Clean with Day's Jewelry Cleaner or mild dish soap in warm water: Use a toothbrush to clean behind the stone where dust, dirt and soap film may collect.

Ring Sizing:
At Day's Jewelers, standard size for lady's rings is 6-6.5, men's rings 10- 10.5. Our team of on-staff professional goldsmiths are prepared to custom size your ring very quickly, usually at no charge. Since it is best practice to size a ring only once, we recommend you order the ring in standard size. If it doesn't fit, the recipient should have his/her finger measured in a jewelry store and have it sized then.Your option to size will appear when you hit the 'add to basket' button.
If this is not practical, there are a number of ways to determine finger size;
1) Take a ring you know is worn on the ring-finger (finger sizes can differ from right to left hand) to a jewelry store and ask them to tell you what size it is.
2) Take a slice of soft bread and press a ring that fits the ring-finger into the bread until a cut out or clear impression of the ring is left on the bread. Take this bread to a jeweler and have them deduce the ring size.
3) Take a ring that you know fits the ring finger and measure it against the table below.
4) Go to a jewelry store and ask them to measure your finger (it's free).
5) Wrap a piece of string around the knuckle of the finger you are interested in knowing the size of and cut it where the two ends meet. Place this against a ruler and compare it to the chart below to determine finger size. (Measure the knuckle because you will need to be able to get the ring off and on. If you would like the ring to fit tightly, order ½ a size smaller than the knuckle size.
6) The chart below may be used to determine finger size, however print size must be correct;

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service.
