Learn About Peridot
Peridot is one of the few stones that come in only one color that is a bright light green. The depth of green in the stone depends on the amount of iron crystallized within it and can vary from a light yellowish green to an olive brownish color and grows more intense in the evening light. Peridot stone is thought to help remove fear from the night and create a state of restfulness for its wearer. Bestowing wisdom and courage Peridot is supposed to be a sign of wealth.
Peridot comes from lava fields and meteorites. The most famous and rare variety is Kashmir Peridot. Kashmir Peridot come from Pakistan and is a vivid rich color of green. Peridot ranks 6.5-7 out of 10 on the Mohs scale (used to determine gem hardness) and is suitable for everyday wear. However, some Peridot edges can be brittle so some care should be taken in wear. Peridot is sometimes heated to bring out its brightest possible color of green, this is a permanent treatment. Peridot is the birthstone for August.
Peridot Care and Necklace Sizing
Peridot Care:
Peridot has a hardness of 6.5, which is harder than metal but softer than many gems. Store peridot jewelry with care to avoid scratches and protect from blows. Peridot should not be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Clean peridot jewelry with Day's Jewelry Cleaner or with mild dish soap in warm water: Use a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust, dirt and soap film may collect.

Necklace Sizing:
Necklaces and chains come in many lengths. The drawings below indicate standard chain lengths and illustrate how they look on the neck of an average size woman and man. Chains can be shortened to create a non-standard length.
The width of a chain is generally indicated in millimeters. The chart below offers a comparison of centimeters to inches. One centimeter is equal to 10 millimeters.

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service. Please send it, properly insured, to DFJ, 88 Main Street, Waterville ME 04901.
