Topaz comes in a wide variety of colors but is most prized in blue, yellow, and pink. Said to reflect the colors of the sunset, Topaz is known as the keeper of flame. Myth states that topaz will bestow vast knowledge, good health, and calming serenity on its wearer. Ranked an 8 out of 10 on the Mohs scale (used to determine gem hardness), Topaz is suitable for everyday wear. However Topaz is more susceptible to damage from a hard blow .
A silicate mineral composed of aluminum and fluorine, it is often found around granite rocks. Most Topaz comes from the ground in very light shades and thus heat or safe low-grade irradiation will often be used to bring out the full color of the stone. Both of these treatments are permanent. Yellow topaz is the birthstone for November while blue topaz is one of the birthstones for December.
Topaz Care and Necklace Sizing
Topaz Care:
Topaz has a high hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale, but it isn't tough. Like diamond, it has a pronounced cleavage: A single blow can break it in half so it should be protected from knocks.
The treated color of blue topaz is stable and permanent and does not require special care.
Clean topaz jewelry with Day's Jewelry Cleaner or with mild dish soap in warm water: Use a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust, dirt and soap film may collect.

Necklace Sizing:
Necklaces and chains come in many lengths. The drawings below indicate standard chain lengths and illustrate how they look on the neck of an average size woman and man. Chains can be shortened to create a non-standard length.
The width of a chain is generally indicated in millimeters. The chart below offers a comparison of centimeters to inches. One centimeter is equal to 10 millimeters.

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service. Please send it, properly insured, to DFJ, 88 Main Street, Waterville ME 04901.
