Learn About Aquamarine
The name Aquamarine comes from the Latin word meaning ‘water of the sea’ which accurately depicts its cool light blue, yellow, and pink colors. Believed in the old days to be what mermaids tails were made of, Aquamarine was coveted by sailors for safety on the water and to remind them of their loves far away. Aquamarine is a type of beryl stone and is mined throughout the world. Aquamarine that come from the Santa Maria Mine in Brazil are rare, intense blue aquamarines that “make every gemstone lover's heart beat faster” (ICGA). Another famous type of Aquamarine is the 'Espirito Santo' from Brazil which have a blue that is not quite as intense as Santa Maria Aquamarines. It ranks a 7.5-8 out of 10 on the Mohs scale (used to determine gem hardness) and is a good choice for daily wear. However, it can break or chip if hit hard enough. Aquamarine is sometimes permanently heat treated to remove traces of green from its blue color. Aquamarine is the birthstone for March.

Generally, the only earrings that are able to be altered in size are dangle or drop styles which can be shortened.
It is common for the width or thickness of an earring to be expressed in millimeters. The chart below compares centimeters to inches. One centimeter is equal to 10 millimeters.

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service. Please send it, properly insured, to DFJ, 88 Main Street, Waterville ME 04901.
