Also known as synthetic stones, created gemstones are one way to get most of the look of a stone for only a fraction of the price. Gemstones can be created or cultured in laboratories using chemical and mineral combinations under high pressure and heat. Created stones can be very close in chemical and mineralogical composition to the natural stone and are not glass or plastic but are carefully combined ingredients to replicate what would happen in nature. The major difference between a natural and created stone is rarity (created obviously being plentiful). A created stone often looks "too perfect" and does not have any of the natural imperfections of one that came from the ground.
Created Gemstone Care and Earring Sizing
Created Gemstone Care:
Created gemstones are cultured in a laboratory with much the same chemical composition as a natural gemstone. Though not as rare or valuable as natural gemstones, created stones should be cared for in the same manner as their natural counterpart.
Clean created gemstone jewelry with Day's Jewelry Cleaner or with mild dish soap in warm water: Use a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust, dirt and soap film may collect.

Earring Sizing:
Generally, the only earrings that are able to be altered in size are dangle or drop styles which can be shortened.
It is common for the width or thickness of an earring to be expressed in millimeters. The chart below compares centimeters to inches. One centimeter is equal to 10 millimeters.

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service. Please send it, properly insured, to DFJ, 88 Main Street, Waterville ME 04901.

Order Processing Time
- Most orders received before 2:00 PM EST will be shipped the same day.
