Made popular as a July birthstone, Ruby can come in all shades of the red spectrum, from light pink to deep, blood red. Due to their ancient beginning, Rubies have a significant mystique. Said to indicate boldness, confidence and protection, Rubies bring abundant passion to the lives of their wearers. Another old myth tells of the first Ruby being born from a dragon's egg! The most luxurious and highly coveted of rubies is the Burmese Ruby which, despite its name, does not necessarily come from Burma . The Burmese Ruby has a slightly bluish tint to its overall color. Secondly, is the Siamese Ruby which looks purplish-brown. The final most luxurious type of Ruby is the Ceylon Ruby, which is a bold, raspberry red, but an exceedingly rare stone that is difficult to find today. Rubies that do not have any natural tints may be treated via diffusion or heating. These permanent treatments help the Ruby reach its brightest huge and glow as vibrantly as possible. Ruby is mainly mined throughout Southeast Asia, while Thailand and Myanmar ( Burma ) produce exquisite examples of this gemstone (AGTA). Rubies are the second hardest gemstone (next to diamonds) and are ranked 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale (used to determine gem hardness). This high ranking on the Mohs scale indicates that Ruby is extremely durable and safe to wear as often as one wants! |

Ruby, like sapphire, is the mineral corundum, which has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. Corundum is so hard, that it is used as an abrasive. As a result, rubies are the most durable of gems.
Clean ruby jewelry with Day's Jewelry Cleaner or with mild dish soap in warm water: Use a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust, dirt and soap film may collect.

Generally, the only earrings that are able to be altered in size are dangle or drop styles which can be shortened.

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service.
