Learn About Tanzanite
The vivid blue/ purple color of the tanzanite stone captured the worlds attention when it was first discovered in Tanzania in 1968. It has only grown in popularity since and is one of the few stones that when untreated exhibits slight trichroism (the changing from blue/ violet to green as you turn the stone). Tiffany & Company helped make Tanzanite as popular as it is today. Tanzanite is a very rare stone coming only from Tanzania. It is said to represent generosity and friendship. Ranked at 6-6.5 out of 10 on the Mohs scale (used to determine gem hardness) Tanzanite can safely be worn regularly but should not be worn when engaging in sports, housework, or gardening. To make it truly pop in color- Tanzanite is often permanently heat treated- this treatment removes the trichroism but makes the stone a much prettier and richer color. Tanzanite is one of the birthstones for December.
Tanzanite Care and Earring Sizing
Tanzanite Care:
Tanzanite jewelry is a little more delicate than other gemstone jewelry. This gem should not be set in a ring that will be exposed to strenuous activity.
Tanzanite is sensitive to temperature change. Never clean a tanzanite in an ultrasonic cleaner. A tanzanite ring cannot be repaired or resized without removing the gemstone from its setting as the stone could be permanently damaged from the heat of a torch.
Clean tanzanite jewelry with Day's Jewelry Cleaner or with mild dish soap in warm water: Use a toothbrush to scrub behind the stone where dust, dirt and soap film may collect.

Earring Sizing:
Generally, the only earrings that are able to be altered in size are dangle or drop styles which can be shortened.
It is common for the width or thickness of an earring to be expressed in millimeters. The chart below compares centimeters to inches. One centimeter is equal to 10 millimeters.

Day's Jewelers offers a lifetime warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship on any piece of jewelry purchased from us. We will also replace any stones, free of charge, in case of loss from the mounting, provided the jewelry was inspected by Day's Jewelers within six months of the loss. This warrantee does not cover excessive abuse or normal wear.
Day's will professionally clean and inspect you jewelry at no charge any time. For warrantee purposes, these inspections must be verified on the Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase by a Day's Jewelers associate. If you have moved to another area, and are unable to bring it to a Day's Jewelers store, please contact us, and we will find a reputable jeweler in your area who will inspect it for you free of charge.
Loss or damage is not covered resulting from abuse, normal wear, mysterious disappearance or repair, sizing or any other work done on your jewelry other than by Day's Jewelers or another jewelry company that we have specifically authorized. Day's Jewelers will repair or replace your setting at our option, if it is defective in materials or craftsmanship, provided the semiannual inspections have been performed.
How to Obtain Warranty Services:
If your jewelry requires any service, simply return it together with your Fine Jewelry Documentation of Purchase to any Day's store. You can also mail the item back to us for warranty service. Please send it, properly insured, to DFJ, 88 Main Street, Waterville ME 04901.
