Tourmaline is one of the most attractive minerals occurring in Maine. It ranges in color from black or white to vibrant shades of red, green, and blue. The first major Maine Tourmaline discovery occurred in 1820 at Mount Mica in Paris. The famous story of the discovery by two boys exploring the local countryside was related by Augustus Hamlin in his 1895 book entitled "The History of Mount Mica." A quarry that was opened at the site has intermittently produced Maine Tourmaline and other interesting minerals up to the present day.
Day's recently had the rare opportunity to purchase hundreds of carats of gorgeous Maine Tourmaline from the private collection of one of the owners of the Plumbago Mine near Bethel, Maine. The vivid colors of these Maine Tourmaline are particularly attractive. Our in-house jewelry designers created a few spectacular, one of a kind rings and pendants. We also have thousands of loose Maine Tourmaline for you to create your own designs. As lifetime Mainers, it's special to know the tourmalines were mined and the jewelry created right here in our own State.
